At the end of February, Huawei unveiled its new foldable smartphone, the Mate X2 (pictured). But sources say this is far from the only new flexible screen gadget this year.
What else?
DigiTimes, citing industry sources, writes that Huawei will introduce three more foldable smartphones in the second half of 2021. We can conclude that the US sanctions have not hit this category as hard as the flagships.
Also, the new models are likely to receive more affordable price tags to drive demand for foldable smartphones. Recall that the identical Mate X2 cannot be called inexpensive – it costs about $ 2800.
Sources also report that we will see new items from other manufacturers in the second half of the year. For example, according to rumors, Samsung will introduce new clamshells Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 (or Galaxy Z Flip 3) in the summer.
With the introduction of new models, Digitimes Research estimates that global shipments of foldable smartphones are likely to reach 7 million units in 2021. For comparison, they ship only 2.8 million units a year earlier.
